I am always being told off by i-technologists for quoting Picasso as having
said that computers are useless. But I still love his reasoning? "Because
they can only give you answers."
Picasso, like AJAXWorld Magazine, liked questions. So we thought we would
share with you what some of the world's leading rich Internet application
pioneers are thinking may be the next questions that we need to see answered.
From that readers can themselves infer where AJAX is headed.
What are the top questions to ask next about AJAX?
Eric Miraglia of Yahoo!
1. (From March'08) How do I calculate the ROI of building my RIA on the
iPhone SDK vs using AJAX?
2. How do I assess the performance of my app and decide what to do next to
make it faster?

my rich web apps? Beyond what's required, what makes good business se... (more)

Here is an interesting news item which claims that UK online ad spend
overtakes mainstream TV. The same news was corroborated by another post which
stated that spending on online advertising surpasses TV. The news was little
disconcerting because it did not seem to match with my ground level
So, I decided to probe a little deeper and unearthed more data on Internet ad
spend. What I uncovered was more in line with what I perceive to be the real
situation. These reports claimed that the Internet ad spend is less than 10%
of total ad spend which is only a fraction of ad spend on TV.

mystery. The first set of reports …

Information overload has infiltrated our lives. From the amount of news
available and at our fingertips 24/7, to the endless choices we have when
making a simple purchase, to the quantity of emails we receive on a given
day, it's increasingly difficult to sift out the details that really matter.
When you envision your cloud monitoring system, the same thinking applies. We
receive a lot of useless data that gets fed into the system, and the reality
is no one in IT or DevOps has the time to manually determine the actionable
data points (that's a whole job itself), meaning monitoring what really
matters is a tall order.
Even a basic cloud application can produce hundreds or thousands of data
points per second. From resource metrics to activity logs, a handful of
servers produces more "monitor-able" data than any human can reasonably
consume. Factor in the rest of the c... (more)

Tech Crunch got it from Extreme Tech which got it from Phoronix which got it
from a source at the big FOSDEM open source conference in Brussels that
Microsoft - which is reportedly planning to release Office for Android, a
Linux distribution, this year - is taking a "meaningful look" at releasing a
full native Linux port of Office next year. The source is presumed to be one
of Microsoft's open source developers. Most open source adherents probably
couldn't be persuaded to use Office for any amount of money, but Microsoft
supposedly thinks Linux has "commercial viability" and may have it in mind to
replace the free LibreOffice or cloud-based productivity apps at government
agencies and universities.

Microsoft Tuesday filed an emergency motion with the U.S. Court of Appeals
for the Federal Circuit in Washington looking for a stay of the permanent
injunction ordering Word and Office off the U.S. market by October 10.
It wants the stay while it appeals the decision.
The order came down late last Tuesday as part of a verdict that Word

The plaintiff-favoring Texas district court that issued the injunction also

Unsecured IoT devices were used to launch crippling DDOS attacks in October 2016, targeting services such as Twitter, Spotify, and GitHub. Subsequent testimony to Congress about potential attacks on office buildings, schools, and hospitals raised the possibility for the IoT to harm and even kill people. What should be done? Does the government need to intervene? This panel at @ThingExpo New York brings together leading IoT and security experts to discuss this very serious topic.

More and more brands have jumped on the IoT bandwagon. We have an excess of wearables – activity trackers, smartwatches, smart glasses and sneakers, and more that track seemingly endless datapoints. However, most consumers have no idea what “IoT” means. Creating more wearables that track data shouldn't be the aim of brands; delivering meaningful, tangible relevance to their users should be.
We're in a period in which the IoT pendulum is still swinging. Initially, it swung toward "smart for smar...

Complete Internet of Things (IoT) embedded device security is not just about the device but involves the entire product’s identity, data and control integrity, and services traversing the cloud. A device can no longer be looked at as an island; it is a part of a system. In fact, given the cross-domain interactions enabled by IoT it could be a part of many systems. Also, depending on where the device is deployed, for example, in the office building versus a factory floor or oil field, security ha...
